Ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to capture live images from inside the body.

Because it does not involve the use of radiation, ultrasound is safe even during pregnancy.

Radiomedic employs the newest ultrasound technology which provides our patients with the best exam possible and provides their doctors with the most precise information.

Preparation

All ultrasound exams are by appointment and are free for residents of Quebec with a valid RAMQ card.

Don’t forget to bring your requisition and health insurance card at the scheduled time.

The following ultrasounds require advance preparation:

Abdominal:

– If your test is in the morning : Do not eat any solid or liquid food after midnight. You can, however, take any medication with a minimum amount of water.

– If your test is after 1 p.m. : Fast for 4 to 6 hours before the test. You may, however, take any medication with a minimum amount of water. Do not eat fatty foods in the morning. For example, you can eat a light breakfast, such as oatmeal with fruit, bread with jam, or a gluten-intolerant equivalent.

Simultaneous Abdominal and Pelvic:

Do not eat 4 to 6 hours before the examination, but drink 3 cups (750ml) of water or other liquid 1 hour before your examination, and do not urinate until the exam is over. Bladder must be full.

Pelvic:

Drink 3 cups (750ml) of water or other liquid 1 hour before your examination, and do not urinate until the exam is over. Bladder must be full.

Breasts:

Besides a few exceptions, patients older than 35yo must pass a mammogram before the ultrasound, except for control ultrasounds. The patient must bring the CD and the report for the mammogram the day of the exam. If previous ultrasounds have been done elsewhere, the reports will also be required the day of your exam to insure a precise comparison of the findings to the previous exam.
